Blog Post: Governing Magazine Recognizes Chris Castro as Public Official of the Year

December 6, 2018

Each year, Governing Magazine hosts a Public Officials of the Year awards dinner in Washington D.C. to honor individual state and local government officials for their outstanding accomplishments in the public sector. The honorees are extraordinary public servants who provide distinguished leadership, strong management expertise and good governance. This year, Governing Magazine selected Chris Castro, Sustainability Director for Orlando, Florida as one of the “2018 Public Officials of the Year for State and Local Governments in America.”

Ygrene, the leading PACE provider in Florida, nominated Castro to receive this award for his commitment to storm preparedness and resiliency and his ardent support of clean energy.  In his current role, Castro is heavily focused on making Orlando carbon-free by 2050, and Castro has long supported PACE as a tool for improving both energy efficiency and resiliency in communities.

“I‘m grateful for this nomination by Ygrene Energy Fund, the nation’s leading clean energy financing company, specifically Ricardo Rodriguez, Kate Wesner, and Ben Taube, for believing in my work in and out of my role in the City of Orlando enough to throw my name in the hat,” remarked Chris Castro.

Governing Magazine only recognizes ten public officials with this award, out of hundreds of nominations. Ygrene is joined by the entire PACE industry in congratulating Castro on receiving this prestigious and well-deserved recognition from Governing Magazine. Castro’s efforts to strengthen energy efficiency and storm preparedness highlight his commitment to building a better, more resilient future in Florida.
